Doc-, er, Kona Joe

Kona Joe's secret is out. He's not a Kona boy after all, but a doctor from southern California, and he's living the life. In a story from our new favorite web site, OC Register writer Greg Hardesty spins the tale of doctor turned Big Island coffee grower Joe Alban.

But, we digress. At the Kona Joe web site, Kona Joe calls himself "your average Joe."

But how many average Joes turn out to be surgeons who journey to Hawaii, "where he fell in love with his wife, met a wild dolphin, and planted a coffee garden?"

And some of his finest coffee sounds very unlike your average Joe. The Estate Pure Kona Coffee is grown like wine grapes on a trellis system.  A tour of their 12 acres might be worth putting on the next Big Island itinerary, no?
