2010 DATA Driver Clinic Information‏

An AWSA Driver Clinic will be offered on Saturday, April 24th at Wet Set in Newberry Springs. Please contact Jack Wilson (909 626-0215, bethiejw@hotmail.com)  for details and registration.

 

For Judges, Scorers and Safety Officials, there is a possibility of a clinic for those ratings on the following day, Sunday, April 25th. Call or email Mike Hayes (949 466-8485, mikehayeski@msn.com) soon as possible if you're interested.

The Annual Wet Set Desert Classic

 

Good times this past weekend!  We pulled 144 rides and a lotta legs (just call me Reride ;)

Thanks to all contestants, officials, club members, judges, boat owners, sponsors, families, supporters and anyone else we might havemissed who helped put this event together. It's truly a team effort and everyone contributed mightily.

Please take a moment to check your records and insure you have paid for all said rides, as our club is a nonprofit all volunteer organization that relies on prompt settlement of accounts in order to keep on keeping on...

Fellow Mission Bay Skiers:

Next weekend 8/2,3 our club will host its first class C slalom tournament in the past couple of years. This is a great way for many of you to get your first taste of tournament skiing. For others, it's a chance to get back into it. It will be a familiar site, with familiar people, and it should be a lot of fun. In addition to being one of the first in the nation to slalom behind a 2009 Correct Craft 196, we have a head to head event planned for the top 8 skiers on Saturday, and a first-of-its- kind slalom endurance event planned for Sunday, which will be handicapped to include anyone and everyone willing to give it a go. All this in conjunction with a "rock-the-dock" BBQ. Did I mention prizes? Yes... we have prizes.

But we need your help!

To make it an outstanding event, we need SKIERS! We need more kids, more women, and I still have not heard from a number of regular Mission Bay shortliners. Come on guys, this is YOUR ski club; please show your support. The water temp is in the low 70's, and with an early low-tide start, everyone will be guaranteed great conditions. The bay skis as well as any private lake this time of year and it's right around the corner for most of us (relative to most tournament sites).

Please email me back at gschmid6@san. rr.com to get on the running order list. Include your USAWS# and age group, and never made pass. We will accept entries on the day, but easier on me if you give me a heads-up and pre-register.

A few trick results

We're wrapping up the first day at the umpteenth annual Desert Classic..two rounds of tricks, one round of slalom (getting close).

Lots of fun in the sun here...and, some great trick skiing ...

Luminaries competing included: Taylor Garcia, Ryan and Sue Strohbach, the skiing Hortons, numerous Wet Set club members and special guests Jenna and Danielle Sligar , Connie Morris, Carol Brooks, Barbara and Wayne Canfield.

Best performance Jenna Sliger, with 4910 points in round two.  Best male performance, Steven Brooks, boys two skier, with 4050 points in round one.

On the eve of the Desert Classic

Alright, who's ready to trick first thing in the morning?  Of course, when we refer to trick, we are refering to trick water skiing on double and single skis...and, probably a few odd wakeboards....We are scheduled to start at 7:30 a.m. and the fun is about to begin. ;)

As you probably noticed, we went paperless at the sanction.  To view the tournament results, there are two ways to find them.

 

1. Go to www.awsawest.net and click on tournaments then click on the medals symbol to the left of the specific tournament.

 

2.  go to www.usawaterski.org and click on waterski then there is a big rectangle that says ratings and you can follow that path to the specific skier or tournament.

 

Much appreciation to all the club members who worked the tournament and to all the officials for all of their work and dedication.
