Special From Lead Scientist Dr. Jay Rotella:
We are very pleased that we were able to collect data in 2021 and that our 2021 field season was so successful. Parker Levinson, Victor Villalobos, and Evan Shields did a great deal of quality work that yielded important data on core project objectives and kept the long-term database for the project intact for yet another year.
2021 Weddell Seal Project Antarctica Field Team, L to R: Parker Levinson, Victor Villalobos, and Evan Shields.
In addition to their successful efforts on the data collection in the field, they also each shared photos and information that help our team communicate with the general public about the scientific studies we do. We are really appreciative of all that they did for the project. Parker and Victor will have their first semester of formal course-work this spring as part of their Masters of Science graduate programs at Montana State University and will each also spend a good deal of time in the months ahead developing the core ideas and analyses for their respective thesis projects. I look forward to seeing what we can learn from all the data analysis and writing they’ll do over the next 2 years. We wish Evan Shields, who recently completed his Masters of Science program with us on a different project, all the best on his next endeavors and look forward to seeing what he accomplishes next. We also thank everyone that works to support our project. It takes a lot of people doing a lot of different types of jobs to put us in a position to do what we do on the project, and we really appreciate all of their efforts!
