Today the 2024 Antarctica Field Team sets off for McMurdo Station, Antarctica to begin their field research work during the Weddell seal pupping season in Erebus Bay. This Weddell Seal Population Study is funded by the National Science Foundation, through a grant managed through Montana State University. The Field Team's travels will take several days or longer depending on weather conditions as they head South to The Ice. We'll keep you updated as we are able, and post photos, videos and reports from the field over the entire Weddell seal pupping season. Here's a short video of adorable Weddell seal pups filmed this past season by 2024 returning Field Team Leader and PhD student Parker Levinson, set to music!
